China’s Economic Rise – Congressional Research Service
The full title of this piece, published a little over a week ago by the Congressional Research Service (“Informing the legislative debate since 1914”), is ‘China’s Economic Rise: History, Trends, Challenges, and Implications for the United States’.
It’s an excellent high-level summary of where China stands today, and how it’s got here. For the informed reader there’s little new but I thought it an interesting document in terms of how well it summarizes the various issues that a China investor needs to be up to speed on. The author, Mr. Wayne M. Morrison, is also to be complimented on his style that’s academic but not dry and informed but not preachy.
One perhaps for the busy CIO or multi asset/market investor more than the China-geekerati; I had only one small issue. The overall tone conveys an air of insouciance which may accurately reflect zeitgeist within the Beltway but I think is misplaced in the context of the reality of where China is headed.
That’s a longer story for another day though.
Happy Sunday
