The Sunday Paper – China’s Economic Rise: History, Trends, Challenges, and Implications for the United States

Published in February this year the report highlighted today is from the non-partisan Congressional Research Service in the U.S. and is authored by Wayne M. Morrison, a Specialist in Asian Trade and Finance.

It provides a scholarly-but-with-a-light-touch review of where China is today and how it got here and while close China watchers will find little new it’s an excellent briefing document that can be circulated to less well informed colleagues and friends.

Pages 28 and 48 will be of interest to all where the author lists first China’s particular challenges and then the challenges from China to U.S. policy.

It comes with a number of useful charts and this one was my favorite.

How would you view a competitor business retaining more capital and investing significantly more than you? I think, as we now know USA Inc. is, you’d be afraid; you’d be very afraid.

Happy Sunday.
